Yao Xiansen, holds a Ph.D. in Law and serves as a doctoral supervisor at the Henan University School of law /Property Intellectual School. He is also an Associate Professor and has been a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He is the leader of the Procedural Law discipline at the Law School of Henan University, as well as the Deputy Director of the Duty Crime Prosecution Research Center of Henan University and the Director of the Procedural Law Research Center at Henan University. Additionally, he is in charge of the Legal Aid Workstation at Henan University. His main research areas include Procedural Law, Law of Evidence, Supervisory Law, and Judicial System. He has published 4 monographs and edited 3 textbooks. He has published over 30 papers in CSSCI-listed legal journals such as "Legal Studies," "Modern Law Science," and "Forum on Law Science."
Dr. Yao has led 1 national project, over 10 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and over 20 projects at the municipal level. He has twice won the second prize and once won the third prize for provincial-level social science achievements. He has been awarded the "National Advanced Individual in Legal Aid (2024)," "Provincial Advanced Individual in Education Discipline Inspection and Supervision (2008)," "2015 Henan Province Annual Person of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Universities," "First Prize of Teaching Quality Award at Henan University (twice)," "Outstanding Internship Supervisor (5 times)," "Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in Hubei Province (2013)," "Second Chen Guangzhong Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Procedural Law (2014)," and "Fifth Chen Guangzhong Doctoral Scholarship in Procedural Law (2013)." He was selected for the "Henan Province 2017 Innovative Talent Support Plan" and the "First Batch of 'Double Thousand Plan' for High-level Personnel Exchange between Higher Education Institutions and Legal Practice Departments Organized by the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Education." He has previously served as the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Shunhe Hui District People's Procuratorate of Kaifeng (2013.4-2014.4) and the Deputy Director of the Henan Provincial Legal Aid Center (2014.4-2016.12).
He is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the Lawyer Studies Research Association of the Henan Law Society, a standing director of the Legal Aid Research Association of the Henan Law Society, a director of the Criminal Procedure Law Research Association of the Henan Law Society, and a director of the Social Security and Comprehensive Governance Research Association of the Henan Law Society. He has participated in the revision of laws such as the "Community Corrections Law," "Legal Aid Law," "Anti-organized Crime Law," "Henan Province Anti-Domestic Violence Regulations," "Henan Province Regulations on the Protection of Minors," and "Henan Province Regulations on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency." He has been appointed as the Chief Legal Consultant Expert in Kaifeng and has been selected for the pool of legal advisors to party and government organs in Kaifeng. He currently serves as the second-term special supervisor of the Kaifeng Municipal Supervisory Committee and a member of the Expert Consultation Committee of the Kaifeng People's Procuratorate and Sanmenxia People's Procuratorate.
